Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have reported the killing of three suspected armed herders who launched an attack on deployed troops in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State. Gen. Sunday Igbinomwanhia, the Force Commander of OPWS, disclosed this during a briefing with journalists on Monday in Makurdi.
The attack resulted in the death of one personnel, with another sustaining injuries, currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Makurdi. OPWS covers Nasarawa, Taraba, and Benue States and has been engaged in security operations within these regions.
Gen. Igbinomwanhia stated that additional troops were conducting a clearance operation to eliminate suspected armed foreign herders infiltrating the Kwande Local Government Area. He alleged that these individuals, causing havoc in villages within Kwande LGA, were suspected of armed herders entering the country through the international border line between Nigeria and Cameroon.
In a separate incident, suspected herders were responsible for the deaths of approximately three individuals in Kwande LGA on Sunday night, according to reports. OPWS continues its efforts to maintain security and combat threats posed by armed groups across the region.
