Whilst the Disbandment of Special Anti-robbery Squad and the renewed protest, Nigeria President Muhammadu has expressed optimism that his administration is eager to reform the Nigeria Police Force.

Police Chief, Adamu Mohammed also known as the inspector-general of police, has announced the immediate disbandment of the special anti-robbery squad (SARS) following nationwide protests over its brutality.

He said the police unit is dissolved across all formations, the 36 state commands, and the Federal Capital Territory.

He said officers and men currently serving in the unit are to be redeployed with immediate effect.

He said new policing arrangements to address the offences of armed robbery and other violent crimes will be presented in due course.

Nigeria President, Muhammadu Buhari in a video clip he sent to address Nigeria said: “The disbanding of SARS is only the first step in our commitment to extensive police reforms in order to ensure that the primary duty of the police and other law enforcement agencies remains the protection of lives and livelihood of our people.”

The President Went further to say that erring officer will be brought to justice.
