Police Conduct Raid on Criminal Hideouts in Lagos, Arresting 40 Suspects

Officers from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command have raided criminal hideouts in the Yaba area and arrested 40 suspects. On Friday, Mr. Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrests in a post shared on his verified handle @benHundeyin.

According to the spokesperson, the arrests occurred at 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday. “RRS personnel apprehended the suspects at various black spots within Yaba,” he stated. “The operation, conducted in collaboration with members of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency, was prompted by public complaints about the activities of criminals who target and rob passersby.”

Mr. Hundeyin explained that RRS Commander, Mr. Olayinka Egbeyemi, acting on the approval of the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adegoke Fayoade, had ordered discreet surveillance of the area before the arrests.

Nine of the 40 suspects were released after thorough screening at the RRS Headquarters in Alausa. “After careful examination, nine individuals were released to their families,” Hundeyin said. “Egbeyemi has instructed that the remaining 31 suspects be prosecuted by the directives of the Commissioner of Police.”
