Pierre Nkurunziza, President of Burundi is dead.
President Pierre Nkurunziza has died of heart failure.
His death was confirmed by the country’s government on its official Twitter page.
The tweet reads, “The Government of the Republic of Burundi announces with great sadness the unexpected death of His Excellency Pierre Nkurunziza, President of the Republic of Burundi, following heart failure on June 8, 2020.”
The deceased was due to be replaced in August by political ally Evariste Ndayishimiye, who won the May 20 2020 Presidential election.
Goodluck Jonathan reacts as Burundi President, Nkurunziza dies of heart failure
Former Nigeria’s President, Goodluck Jonathan has reacted to the death of President of Burundi, Pierre Nkurunziza.
Reacting, Jonathan in a post on his official Twitter page expressed his condolence to the government of Burundi.
His tweet read: “I extend my deepest condolences to the Government and people of Burundi over the passing of their President H.E. Pierre Nkurunziza who died suddenly on Tuesday.
“May God Almighty comfort his family and the good people of Burundi as they mourn.”
Buhari reacts to death of Burundi President, Pierre Nkurunziza
President Muhammadu Buhari had reacted to the death of President Pierre Nkurunziza of Burundi.
In a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari said, “It is with profound grief and sadness that we received the news of the death of President Pierre Nkurunziza.”
He said President Nkurunziza was a true patriot that steered the country through turbulent times with wisdom and foresight.
“At this time of great pain and loss, the Government and people of Nigeria as well as myself, express our deepest condolences to the Government and people of Burundi.
“Our thoughts and prayers also go out to the family of the President. May God grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.’’
