The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has extolled the virtues of former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, GCFR, while as a statesman.

PDP, in a special congratulatory birthday message, highlighted the nation-building roles played by IBB, who turned 78 on August 17.

PDP in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan commended Babangida for dedicating his life for the unity, stability and development of Nigeria.

The statement reads: “The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on behalf of the teeming members of our great party, heartily congratulates former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida GCFR, on the occasion of his 78th birthday.

“The PDP holds Gen. Babangida in great esteem as a patriotic, fearless and detribalized leader, who has dedicated his life for the unity, stability and development of our dear nation.

“Gen. Babangida is celebrated for his many legacies while in office as well as his steadfastness and exceptional commitment towards national cohesion, tolerance and peaceful coexistence in our country.

“Indeed, from this great Nigerian flows an enduring lesson in selfless service. His life epitomizes the true virtue of statesmanship and the fact that one can indeed climb to the very top and yet remain humble and accessible.

“The PDP therefore joins family members, friends, associates and well-wishers in rolling out the drums in celebration of this outstanding leader, while praying God to continue to bless him with many more years of good health and sound mind so that our nation will continue to benefit from his wealth of experience for the good of all.”

Atiku sends message to IBB

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 elections, Atiku Abubakar, has praised the virtues of former military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.

Atiku, in a special congratulatory birthday message, highlighted the nation-building roles played by IBB, who turned 78 on August 17.

In a statement signed by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, the former vice president said that in and out of office, IBB carried himself with immense grace and comportment.

“General Babangida as a young officer fought for the unity and indivisibility of our fatherland.

“And as head of state, he not only spearhead the physical relocation of the nation’s capital from Lagos to Abuja but politically too, championed and implemented the ideal of a two-party system which enlisted the majority of Nigerians.

“In and out of office, General Babangida carries himself with immense grace, comportment and dignified charisma,” the statement read in part.

Atiku further prayed for good health and long life for Babangida, in his continued service to the nation.

“Our dear country, more than ever before, now needs the collective wisdom of her great leaders, to steer the ship of state away from its current path of abysmal wreck,” Atiku noted.
