No More pensions for Ex-Governors And Speakers - Imo Assembly

Pensions and other privileges enjoyed by Previous Governors and Speakers has been put to halt by the Imo state House of Assembly.

The Bill which was passed into law on thursday will stop past governors and speakers from receiving their pensions and other privileges.

The executive bill was presented by the Majority Leader of the House, Uche Ogbuagu and given accelerated hearing.

In an interview, the Majority Leader said the bill would go a long way in saving cost for the State.

According to him, the State loses about N1.3bn annually to offset the bills, a sum he described as humongous enough to pay workers’ salary.

He applauded the Governor, Hope Uzodinma for assenting to the bill, adding that Imo State will soon enjoy the benefits derivable from the law.

Uche Ogbuagu is the member representing Ikeduru State Constituency in the Imo House of Assembly.
