NDLEA Seizes 300,000 Smuggled Tramadol Pills from Pakistan

Agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) successfully seized a cache of 300,000 tramadol pills at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja on Friday. The NDLEA’s spokesperson, Mr. Femi Babafemi, announced on Sunday in Abuja that the pills were illicitly imported from Pakistan.

Babafemi disclosed that additional quantities of tramadol and Indian hemp were discovered hidden in the soles of sports canvas shoes intended for shipment to Oman. This interception occurred at two courier firms in Lagos on January 9. Another interception involved a shipment of tramadol, and Rohypnol concealed in spices, bound for the United Kingdom.

In a separate incident, the NDLEA apprehended a 24-year-old man in Katsina State on January 10, seizing 25.5kg of hemp during a buy-and-bust operation at Kurmi Primary School in Malumfashi. Babafemi emphasized the agency’s commitment to curbing drug-related activities, which pose a significant threat to public health and safety.

Furthermore, in Gombe, operatives arrested an individual found in possession of 47 blocks of Indian hemp weighing 30kg. The illegal substance was cleverly concealed within two sacks of groundnuts. These arrests underscore the pervasive nature of drug trafficking and the efforts made by the NDLEA to combat this menace.

The NDLEA continues to demonstrate its dedication to thwarting the activities of drug traffickers, ensuring that such dangerous substances do not infiltrate communities and jeopardize the well-being of the public. The recent operations highlight the vigilance of law enforcement agencies in safeguarding the country against the illicit drug trade.
