The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) conducted a raid on a “Skuchies” factory operated by a 28-year-old individual in the Moniya area of Ibadan on January 11. “Skuchies” refers to a Chapman drink that has been illicitly laced with hard drugs. NDLEA’s spokesperson, Mr. Femi Babafemi, announced on Sunday in Abuja that the raid resulted in the seizure of 76.6kg of Indian hemp, 134gm of tramadol, 93gm of Rophynol, and 50 litres of the drugged Chapman.
Additionally, in Ondo State, NDLEA made several arrests in drug-related cases. On January 12, four drug suspects were apprehended in a hotel off Ado-Ekiti Road, Akure, with 524.5kg of Indian hemp. In a separate incident, a 26-year-old man was arrested at Ala Forest, Akure, with 293.5kg of Indian hemp and a Dane gun in his possession.
In Edo State, a 67-year-old man was arrested on January 11 in Otuo, Owan East Local Government Area, with 454 blocks of Indian hemp weighing 311kg loaded in his Lexus salon car. Furthermore, on January 9 in Ayangba, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi, a 43-year-old man was apprehended with 43 blocks of compressed Indian hemp weighing 22kg and three pinches of methamphetamine.
NDLEA’s decisive actions in these operations underscore the agency’s commitment to combating the illegal drug trade and related activities. The discovery of a “Skuchies” factory highlights the evolving tactics employed by individuals involved in drug-related offences. The seizure of significant quantities of Indian hemp and other illicit substances in various locations emphasizes the persistent challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing drug trafficking and abuse.
