NDLEA Issues Warning to Travelers Always Verify Luggage Contents Before Accepting

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has cautioned travelers: Only accept luggage from unfamiliar individuals with knowing what is inside. Femi Babafemi, the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, relayed this warning through a statement on Sunday.

According to Babafemi, two students, one of whom is pursuing a PhD, encountered trouble when bottles of codeine syrup were discovered in the luggage they were carrying for a female friend studying abroad. Babafemi emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, “A PhD student and another student studying abroad found themselves in custody because bottles of codeine syrup were discovered in the luggage they were transporting for their female friend overseas. They could have faced imprisonment if @ndlea_nigeria hadn’t diligently ensured that the owner was promptly put on the next flight home. This incident underscores why we advise against accepting any luggage from anyone without knowing its contents.”

Babafemi also shared a video illustrating how bags of opioids were concealed among spare parts being transported from Onitsha to Mubi in Adamawa.
