N-Power Recipients Have Started Receiving Outstanding Payments, Says Betta Edu

The Federal Government has initiated the disbursement of arrears to beneficiaries of the N-Power program. The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, disclosed the disclosure during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.

Edu stated, “Currently, payments for N-Power are underway; we were in the office yesterday until early this morning, ensuring that young people receive the funds owed to them from the previous government. So, N-Power beneficiaries nationwide, I’m sure you can confirm that you are seeing your money in your accounts, and this process will continue until every individual who has served is paid.”

She emphasized that the ongoing restructuring aims to reduce unemployment and generate job opportunities for Nigerians. The scheme beneficiaries had outstanding salaries from the previous administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

N-Power, established on June 8, 2016, by then-President Muhammadu Buhari, aimed to address youth unemployment and enhance social development. The program was temporarily suspended after President Bola Tinubu assumed office. However, Edu clarified that the current government is working to settle outstanding issues before resuming the program.

She explained, “The Renewed Hope N-Power has not been relaunched yet. We are still addressing issues from previous years. These individuals were owed money for several months. We had a consultant managing the payments, but the funds were held up for months without reaching the beneficiaries. The government recovered the money into the government’s TSA CBN account and started scrutinizing the beneficiaries, which took some time. We appeal to the young people to be patient.”
