My True Love

What have I gotten myself into? This is crazy! I wanted to make it clear that I wanted nothing to do with him instead I went ahead and kissed the man.

Crazy!

I remove the band holding my hair and sweep my hand through it, then I discover that my earring is missing. With my hand rubbing the empty spot on my ear I enter the house. My family is still awake, I kiss and greet them, give an excuse and escape to my room. From the sly looks my sisters were giving me, they probably guessed from my dishevelled look what I’d been upto. It doesn’t matter, the main issue is how I’m going to face Jase on wednesday. Why did I agree to go out with him?
Oh I know why, he’d been kissing me senseless and I couldn’t say no. Doing things to me, my ear… My earring! That’s where it is; in his car! My favourite earrings that I wear on mondays and on special occasions. They’re like my goodluck charm, especially on mondays when the day is usually hectic and now, one is with him. I can’t hide from him, I have to get it back.
Taking off the rest of my jewelries, I notice the red light blinking on the answering machine. What does he want now!
I turn away and head to the bathroom. I’ll deal with it later.

The next day at the office was a blur, even Ashley’s nagging didn’t faze me. I did my work, ate my lunch- courtesy Jase who also fed the rest of the office and didn’t bother to let me know, and kept on working. To be honest, I waited for his call even though I was going to act annoyed, it didn’t come. I was also expecting a little note from him, nothing. Zilch from him so I worked, Ashley nagged and I kept working and when it was time to leave I packed up and left. I almost didn’t drop Ashley home, she found me making my way out of the parking lot.
Throughout the ride Ashley didn’t say anything, it was like she knew I was in no mood to talk and it only made me angry at myself and Jase.
How did it get this way? We only went out once, I didn’t even plan to see him again but all of a sudden things changed and I can’t stop thinking about him and even stop worrying about the fact that he hasn’t called. Sigh!

I arrive home and there’s a car in the driveway, I park behind it and step out. The hope that it’s Jase’s falls when I see it’s a different car. This car’s also badass with the same colour and similar style but it’s not Jase’s so who else is here? Entering the house I immediately hear voices in the parlour. The last thing I need in the house is a visitor and there’s no way to get to my room without passing through the parlour. I’ll just greet and find an excuse to leave, maybe….

No way! No fricking way! Jase can’t be here, the voice I just heard can’t be his.
The visitor in the parlour spoke again and this time I knew he was the one. I did not imagine his voice out of need. He’s really here! Oh I’m so angry with him. I march to the parlour and there he was seducing my family, even my father was laughing at something he said and was that…maryland biscuit?
“Hello mum, dad.” I look pointedly at my dad and he had the grace to look away. I turn to Jase, “What are you doing here?”
He’s sitting comfortably and isn’t even ruffled about my approach, the only thing that shows he’s surprised is his raised brow.
“Now Mira,” This from my mom, “Jase came to pay us a visit-”
“And he came with biscuits which he seems to think are your favourite.” Jessie interrupts.
“I still don’t understand why he thinks you eat biscuits.” Stephanie comments, looking confused even as she bites into one.
“Girls, he’s right here.” Mom says in a low voice. I sigh and turn back to Jase who’s now sitting straightup, wearing a frown.
“Come with me.”

Without waiting for his reaction I walk out of the parlour, down to the kitchen. I kick off my heels, drop my bag and head straight to the fridge.
“So you’re not a maryland fan? And I bought the store out.”
I look behind me and see him resting on the door frame.
“I never told you to.”
Taking out the juice pack, I close the fridge and face him.
“What are you doing here, Jase?” He stands straight and enters the kitchen, his eyes on me.
“I thought you were going to stay behind at the office and help out in the decoration…or was that a lie?”
Shit! I totally forgot and it’s all because of him. I don’t even mind the edge in his voice.
“Why are you here?” I ask again.
There’s no way I can admit that I was distracted by him or the lack of him and therefore forgot about the preparation.
Jase looks at me awhile then turns his gaze to his surrounding.
“I wanted to meet your family and also surprise you with the biscuits when you returned from work so when you eat them you’ll think of me.” He gives a slight chuckle and turns back to me, “Now I find out you don’t even like biscuits, but the rest of your family does so it’s not a waste.”

I don’t know what to say to him so I stand by the counter staring at him while he does the same by the window.
“Come here.” He says and there’s no mistaking his intention.
“You’re crazy!”

“You’re crazy!” It comes out in an angry whisper.
“Mira.”
The warning tone in his voice gets my back up.
“If you think I’m going to let you put your hands on me, especially with my parents around the corner, you’ve really lost it.”
My heart is beating furiously, I’m turned on and I’m trying to maintain my anger. How can I find him hot when he’s been the reason for my moodiness/anger coupled with my parents…and sisters just in the parlour? Something must be wrong with me.

I gulp down the cold juice and pour another in my glass.
“I didn’t hear you complaining the other night.” He points out, smirking at me.
“You are such a jerk. Get out of my house!” I point in the direction of the parlour, my breath is coming out fast and I just want him to leave before I embarrass myself further.
Jase doesn’t move, he’s watching me and he’s got this serious look on his face. He’s probably wondering how he got entangled with someone like me.
“Leave, Jase, I want you to leave and never come back. Yesterday was a mistake, the…the kiss was a mistake, we never should have-”
“Bullshit.” He strides to me in quick steps.
“Jase, no!”
I don’t even have time to escape him before he grabs my hand and pulls me to him. His lips crashes down on mine…hard. I gasp and his tongue finds its way in, enticing mine to a dance. The kiss is pain and pleasure and it’s heady.

“A mistake? Does this feel like a mistake.” He kisses me again and I hold onto him. All our anger and frustrations, we pour into the kiss. He relieves me of my jacket, the counter pressing into my back, his hands roaming my body.
When he releases my lips and moves to my neck I try to grab onto sense.
“Jase, please.” Even my voice sounds weak to my ears.
His hands and lips stop their havoc on my trembling body, his eyes holding mine.
“Mira-”
I shake my head. Taking a chance, I place a hand over his lips.
“I’m not…I can’t do this with my parents in the next room. It feels weird and we’re angry with each other….” I sigh.
He nods, I remove my hand from his lips and move away. He holds on and pulls me back.
“This is not over…” His voice is low and threatening. “and we’re not a mistake.” Placing a light kiss on my lips he mutters, “See you at the party.” He releases me and doesn’t stop walking even when he sights Jessie who apparently had been spying on us. He nods in her direction and walks out of the kitchen.

“Sorry, mom wanted me to…to get a fruit juice for her and you guys were…you know,” She gestures in my direction, “And I didn’t want to disturb…Sorry!” I wave away her excuses knowing they were lies and not really caring either way.
I settle on a chair and drink my not-so-cold juice. Cautiously, like someone mindful of a ticking bomb she enters the kitchen.
“Do you want to talk about it?” She asks when she joins me. I shake my head.
For a while it’s quiet but it doesn’t stay that way.
“Well, let me just say this, you guys were hot!” She fans herself, a silly smile on her face. I knew it wouldn’t be long before she vomitted what was on her mind.
“And him? Maryland’s my best biscuit if it can get him to come more often but then he’s not interested in me. What about his friends?”
As she stopped talking I didn’t know whether to laugh or reprimand her. Within, I smiled, Jessie was just what I needed.
“One, he’s too old for you. Two, his friends would scare you. Three…three, we’re not whatever you think we are. We’re just….I don’t know.”
Jessie nods in understanding.
“But you like him.” This was not a question.
“Yea, yea I do.” I smile.
“Then It’ll work out in the end. Life’s too short not to enjoy it especially when it comes with hot army guys ready to sweep you away.” She takes a drink from her glass.
“Who are you and what have you done to my rebellious sister?”
I’m amazed. Jessie acts crazy and on impulse, she’s not the type to dish out advise so I’m surprised by the wisdom of her words and the conviction behind it that tells me she believes what she just said to me.
“You’re growing up on me.” I pull her close and hug her.
“I have been growing, you’re just noticing.” She says.
I pull back still staring at her then I ruffle her hair.

“Great! Picture perfect moment, but what happens to Bode? Or have you forgotten about him?”

Stephanie steps into the kitchen, her eyes narrowed in my direction.
Oh God! Bode! I’d forgotten about him. What a mess!!!!

The End..
