Kwara Police Cracks Down on Yuletide Fireworks Use

To ensure the safety of lives and properties during the festive season, the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has warned residents about the use of fireworks, firecrackers, and other explosive devices. The command emphasizes that individuals caught engaging in such activities will face legal consequences.

In a related development, the State Command of the National Security and Civil Defence has taken proactive measures by deploying 2,500 officers to strategic locations across the state to enhance security.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, released in Ilorin on Tuesday, it acknowledges the excitement and passion associated with the upcoming festivities in Kwara State. However, it underscores the importance of maintaining law and order and respecting the rights and well-being of others in the community.

The statement reinforces the ban on the use of fireworks, firecrackers, or any explosive devices, emphasizing the potential for extensive damage to properties, severe injuries, and threats to safety and security. The CP warns that individuals caught violating this ban will be subject to legal consequences.

The CP urges citizens to be law-abiding, discourages criminal acts, and has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Heads of Tactical Units to ensure maximum security within their areas of responsibility throughout the yuletide season.

Additionally, residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through emergency telephone numbers 08125275046 or 07032069501. The statement also highlights the availability of the NPF Rescue Me Application on the Google Play Store and PPRO Social Media Handles for reporting.

Meanwhile, the Spokesman of the NSCDC, Ayoola Michael Sola, in a separate statement, announced the deployment of over 2,500 personnel across the state to prevent the breakdown of law and order during the festive season. The deployment focuses on key areas prone to threats, aiming to establish coordinated actionable intelligence and ensure a secure environment.
