The Federal Government has taken a significant step by placing the immediate-past Governor of Kogi State under scrutiny. This decision entails alerting security agencies and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to apprehend him should he attempt to enter or exit the country.

The disclosure came from Kemi Nanna Nandap, the Comptroller General of the Immigration Service, in a memo addressed to various security stakeholders. These stakeholders include the Director General of the Department of State Services, the Inspector General of Police, and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Director General.

The memo, signed by ACI DS Umar, provided details about the ex-governor’s international passport. It stated that the individual in question has been placed on a watchlist and is currently facing prosecution before the Federal High Court in Abuja for Conspiracy, Breach of Trust, and Money Laundering.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) also declared the former governor wanted for economic and financial crimes amounting to N80.2 billion. In an official statement on its Facebook page, the EFCC urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to report to the commission or the nearest police station.

Efforts to apprehend the former governor intensified when Vanguard reported that EFCC officials surrounded his residence in Abuja. However, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo intervened with his security operatives and successfully removed him from the situation.

The decision to place the former governor on a watchlist underscores the government’s commitment to combatting corruption and ensuring accountability among public officials. It serves as a warning to others who may engage in similar illicit activities that they will be held accountable for their actions.
