JAMB UTME 2020: This is All You Need to Know about the 2020 Joint Admission and Matriculation Board JAMB, Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

2020 UTME/DE APPLICATION

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission to Tertiary Institution in Nigeria for the 2020/2021 Academic Session.

REGISTRATION PERIOD (UTME & DIRECT ENTRY)

The period of registration for all (UTME/DE) candidates including those from Foreign Countries is from 13th January to 17th February 2020.

PIN vending ends on Friday, 14th February 2020, while the registration portal closes on Monday, 17th February 2020.

ELIGIBILITY CHECKER

Candidates are advised to check their eligibility for chosen programmes and institution on
ibass.jamb.gov.ng It is important that candidates check the requirements before commencing the application process. The eligibility checker assists candidates with options of programmes (courses) based on their qualifications.

GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The general entry requirements for admission into the First Degree, Naonal Diploma (ND), National Innovation Diploma (NID) and Nigeria Cerficate in Educaon (NCE) programmes are five (5) O’level credit passes including English Language. Details are available in the e-Brochure which would be given to each eligible candidate at any JAMB accredited CBT – registration centres. The e-Brochure is also available for download at ibass.jamb.gov.ng and on Android Mobile App (JAMB IBASS) from the Google Play store.

REQUIREMENT FOR DIRECT ENTRY

(Note: DE registration closes on the same date with UTME Application)
Candidates with any of the following qualification may be considered for admission through Direct Entry:
A minimum of O’level credit pass in five (5) SSCE subjects at not more than two sings with at
least two prescribed subjects [for each programme (course of study)] at Principal or A’level.

Two passes (in prescribed subjects for each (programme) course of study) at the A’Level Examination of IJMB, Cambridge, JUPEB or Instute of Baccalaureate with SSCE/GCE, NTS/NBC credits equivalents in three other subjects.

Passes in two major subjects in the NCE with SSCE, NTC/NBC credits or equivalents in THREE other subjects (mainly for Education Courses) and ND.

Minimum of lower credit grade in National Diploma or National Innovation Diploma and the O’level requirements.

NOTE FOR DIRECT ENTRY

DE CANDIDATES WILL BE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE THEIR JAMB REGISTRATION NUMBERS WITH WHICH THEY GAINED ADMISSION TO NCE/NID/DIPLOMA AND PREVIOUS DEGREE PROGRAMMES.

QUALIFICATIONS AWARDED BY EXAMINATION BODIES (IJMB, CAMBRIDGE, WAEC, NABTEB, JUPEB,etc) APPROVED BY NIGERIA SHALL NOT REQUIRE ANY PREVIOUS JAMB REGISTRATION NUMBER.

REGISTRATION FOR DE CANDIDATES SHALL NOT BE EXTENDED BEYOND THE PERIOD ALLOTTED TO BOTH UTME/DE

WARNING FOR DIRECT ENTRY AND UTME:

CANDIDATES SHOULD NOT APPLY FOR UTME AND DE AT THE SAME TIME. IF ANY CANDIDATE APPLIES THROUGH UTME AND LATER OBTAINS HIGHER QUALIFICATION, THE UTME CAN BE UPGRADED TO DE AT NO COST.

Indeed it is a sanction-able infraction to obtain two application documents in the same year.
Double/multiple registrations attract outright cancellation and prosecution.

Candidates are not permitted to register more than once. In the event of any error during
registration process, such candidates are to seek correction from the Board and not to obtain a fresh application as doing so would attract sanction.

Registration can only be done at the centers listed on the Board’s website (www.jamb.gov.ng) and pasted at JAMB Offices across the country. Anybody who registers outside these centres does so at his/her own risk.

Nobody, including parents/guardians or any proxy is allowed to transact any business on any
candidate’s profile. The registration process and all activities on candidates’ profile are being
monitored by the Board and defaulters shall be severely sanctioned. Any candidate who makes his password, profile code or other security codes available to another person(parents, friends, tutorial teachers, fraudsters etc) is liable for any alteration done by such person(s). DO NOT GIVE YOUR PASSWORD TO ANYBODY INCLUDING JAMB OFFICIALS. These security codes are not to be demanded at any registration centre by any person for any purpose.

ORDER OF CHOICE OF INSTITUTIONS

(Any Institution can be first choice)
Every candidate is to note that his/her 1st choice can be a College of Education, University, Innovation Enterprise Institution, Polytechnic/Monotechnic, Nigerian Defence Academy or Police Academy.

PROCESS FOR 2020 UTME/DE REGISTRATION

A. CREATION OF PROFILE

Every Candidate will require the use of a unique phone (mobile) number (SIM) for the process of registration. The unique phone number can only be used by one candidate.

Candidate will send his/her name [Surname First-Name Middle-Name (if any)] by text (SMS) to 55019. This should be maximum of 38 characters + 2 spaces between names = 40 characters in all to 55019 e.g Bola Bature Okoro. Surname and first name are mandatory.

A Profile Code of 10 characters will be received by the candidate on the same telephone(SIM) number.

The phone (mobile) number used for the text message is automatically ed to the Candidate’s name and will be used in all communication related to each candidate’s 2020 Application, Examination and Admission. CANDIDATES SHOULD NOTE AND ALWAYS REMEMBER THE SIM NUMBER USED. IT IS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE FOR SUBSEQUENT COMMUNICATION WITH THE BOARD.

BY OBTAINING UTME/DE APPLICATION DOCUMENTS, A CANDIDATE HAS ACCEPTED TO RECEIVE TEXT MESSAGES FROM JAMB (55019) EVEN WHEN THE “DO NOT DISTURB” IS ACTIVATED.

Candidate will present the profile code at the point of procurement of application document (Banks, MMOs, MFBs, Switches, USSD Partners). An ePIN is then sent as text message to the candidate’s phone.

Candidate will present the Profile code and ePIN at any JAMB accredited CBT Centre for
registration.

The application cannot be completed until the candidate’s biometrics (all ten fingers) are
captured and photograph taken physically (No submission of passport photograph). Successful capture of biometrics and photograph will authorize a candidate to print his/her e-registration slip. The fingerprint shall be required for any further transaction with JAMB on the candidate’s profile.

Only candidates whose biometric verification is successful on examination day will be permitted to sit the UTME. No parent or any proxy is allowed to make any transaction on the candidate’s profile.

Candidates with biometric challenges can only register at JAMB headquarters in Abuja.

 

SELF HELP IN CASE OF MISTAKE/LOSS OF PROFILE CODE

To retrieve a lost Profile Code, send the word [RESEND] from the same mobile number to 55019 as a text message.

Candidates can reset lost or forgoen Profile Password on their registered cell phone number by sending the word “PASSWORD” space [the email address] from the same mobile number as a text message to 55019.

TICKETING (FREE COMPLAINTS)

For ALL complaints on JAMB processes, a candidate should create a support cket at
(support.jamb.gov.ng) with his/her email address with the Board. Candidate then provides his/her name, phone number and the nature of the complaint, selects a complaint area on a drop-down and then summaries the nature of the complaint. He/she should also each supporting documents (if available). Complaints from 3rd pares are merely noted. Leer wring is not encouraged. Rather all complaints should be channeled through the ticketing system for prompt attention and documentation.

Candidates and the general public are to note that nobody can help with admission or upgrade of scores; they would only deceive and defraud those who patronize fraudster.

NIPOST and eleven Parcipang Banks (ACCESS, FCMB, FIDELITY, FIRSTBANK, GTB, JAIZ, POLARIS, STERLING, TAJ, UBA, UNION and UNITY).

PROCEDURE FOR REGISTRATION AT THE EIGHT FOREIGN CENTRES:

(a) Registration fee for candidates from the eight foreign countries is Twenty United States Dollars ($20) or it’s equivalent in each of the eight countries local currency

(b) Candidates in the eight foreign countries are to download the Applicaon from the Board’s
website (www.jamb.gov.ng), complete and submit it with the fee at the designated centres in the country as indicated on the website.

OFFER OF FREE APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

Any government, person or organisation that wishes to distribute free application documents to prospective applicants is required to urgently procure the bulk e-pins from either JAMB or any of the approved sale outlets

Candidates who want to enjoy any of this offer are advised to visit the sponsor’s designated bank(s) or other e PIN outlets (NOT ANY CBT centre) to collect the e-pin aer creang their profiles as illustrated above.

No refund would be made to any candidate if he/she had earlier purchased the applicaon
document before being offered free ePIN. Such applicants should refrain from mulple registration

H. HOW TO RECOVER LOST ePIN AFTER PAYMENT

If ePIN is not Received or Lost, send [UTMEPIN] or [DEPIN] from the Unique number to 55019 for UTME or DE respectively

The ePIN would then be retrieved and delivered to the candidate’s unique phone number
AFTER SUCCESSFUL PAYMENT AND OBTAINING ePIN, CANDIDATE SHOULD PROCEED TO ANY OF THE JAMB ACCREDITED CBT CENTRE TO COMPLETE HIS/HER REGISTRATION

I. REGISTRATION CENTRES

i. Registration is carried out only at the accredited Computer Based Test Centres (CBT) and
Professional Registration Centres (PRC) SEE LIST OF CBT CENTERS

ii. Each candidate should visit any accredited CBT centre (the list of accredited centres is on the Board’s website (www.jamb.gov.ng and JAMB offices), with his/her profile code and e-PIN.

REGISTRATION PROCESS AT CBT CENTRES:

Candidate must PERSONALLY present his/her profile Code and e-PIN at any JAMB accredited CBT Centre for registration. Candidate’s photograph and biometrics (all ten fingerprint) MUST be captured at the CBT centre.

Candidates are to:
I. Note that service charge payable at the CBT centre for either MOCK or registration is N700 only. Candidates should report any centre that ask for more.

Provide choice of institution and programmes (course of study).

Provide qualification with grades and dates, if not awaiting result.

Upload relevant certificates, if not awaiting result (this is applicable for both UTME and Direct Entry (DE) candidates.

Provide O/L and /or A/L grades. Candidates who are awaiting results should supply (upload) the results online on CAPS (JAMB) as soon as they are available. No recommendations from any Institution will be considered by JAMB if the candidate does not upload his/her result on the portal of JAMB. No institution is allowed to take a new picture/photograph, biometrics or require any other upload of result. All results are downloadable by institution from the Board’s website (and the download is tracked to avoid abuse).

Supply JAMB registration number for previous institutional certificates for DE only

Provide UTME subjects and choice of examination town(s) for
a. Mock examination(optional)

b. Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) (actual examination)

Review entries and confirm correctness

Print Registration Slip USING BIOMETRIC AUTHENTICATION to confirm valid finger-print
(UTME/DE).

Note that authentication with your fingerprint removes blames of error from CBT
centres.

Candidates are to check before confirming with their fingerprint.

Collect, at no other cost, the reading text and CD

Collect e-slip at the end of registration as evidence of registration

NOTE: There will be no offline registration, as all the accredited CBT centres have been
empowered for real-me online registration.

No candidate should register at any centre other than the accredited CBT centre and JAMB State-Offices. Any candidate who is registered outside approved centres will be identified and disqualified. No submission of passport photograph, documents and other personal details to any centre with the instruction of coming back to complete registration at another day or me. All registration must be completed online, real-me.

BLIND CANDIDATES

Candidates who are blind are to indicate by typing BLIND and also pick the open of sitting for the examination through CBT mode or Read Aloud. A candidate is either blind or sighted. It is important to be factual.

DEAF/MUTE CANDIDATES

A special indicator for the deaf/mute has been created to differentiate them for special attention at the examination hall. Deaf candidates are therefore required to confirm this appropriately during registration.

BIOMETRIC CHALLENGES

Candidates with biometric challenges can only register at JAMB Headquarters, Bwari, Abuja.

No other CBT centre is permitted to register such candidates

Such candidates will also sit for their examination at JAMB Headquarters in Abuja

No candidate will be permitted to sit for the examination if his/her biometrics is not verified

The Board will not permit or process any examination without biometric verification

Candidates with Biometric abnormality can only register and take examinaon at the JAMB
Headquarters, Bwari, Abuja.

The Board will facilitate the travels of the candidates.

DATES AND VENUE FOR THE 2020 UNIFIED TERTIARY MATRICULATION EXAMINATION

The 2020 UTME will commence on Saturday, 14th March and end on Saturday, 4th April 2020

The venue of the examination will be at any centre in the candidate’s chosen examination town(s)

JAMB DOES NOT POST ANY CANDIDATE TO ANY EXAMINATION TOWN (OR GROUP OF TOWNS) OTHER THAN THE ONE CHOSEN BY THE CANDIDATE AT THE POINT OF REGISTRATION.

CANDIDATES ARE, HOWEVER, ADVISED TO REGISTER EARLY BEFORE THE AVAILABLE SPACES IN THEIR TOWN OF CHOICE OR GROUP OF TOWNS ARE EXHAUSTED. DUE TO DISCOVERED CONSPIRACY AMONG SOME CBT CENTRES, NO EXAMINATION TOWN WITH FEW CENTRES IS ALLOWED. MANY TOWNS HAVE BEEN MERGED.

REGISTRATION FEE/PROCUREMENT OF REGISTRATION ePINs

For the 2020 UTME, candidates are required to pay Three Thousand Five Hundred (N3, 500) Naira Only as registration fee. Additional Five Hundred (N500) Naira only, is paid to obtain the reading text “Sweet Sixteen” by Bolaji Abdullahi for UTME Candidates and “The Last Days at Forcados High School” by A. H. Mohammed or “In Dependence” by Sarah Ladipo Manyika for DE Candidates.

Seven Hundred Naira (N700) is the regulated charge for CBT Centre service and $20 is the
application fee for Candidates in the eight foreign centres.

A Compact Disc (CD) containing JAMB eSyllabus, eBrochure and other vital materials is given free to every registered candidate.

Candidates should note that ePINS purchased are ed to individual profile and are not
transferable.

Candidates are advised to keep as private and confidential their security details such as
registration numbers, password/numbers of ATM Cards, email addresses and ePINs. No centre is allowed to request for or accept a candidate’s password.

OPTIONAL MOCK-EXAMINATION

The Board will conduct a Mock Examination in all the accredited CBT centres to prepare and
familiarize INTERESTED Candidates with the CBT environment. Interested candidates are advised to indicate interest in the Mock Examination during registration provided they register on or before Saturday, 1st February, 2020.

The date for MOCK examination shall be on Tuesday, 18th February, 2020.

Non-JAMB owned CBT Centres are allowed to collect, through their bank accounts, a separate Seven Hundred Naira (N700) only, for Mock Examination from only interested candidate(s) after notification of centre has been received by the candidate(s). The payment for Mock Examinaon by candidates shall be made to the centre to which the candidate is assigned after the notification of assigned centres for the Mock Examination. No Association or body is permitted to run any Mock Examinaon on behalf of JAMB CANDIDATES ARE NOT TO PAY FOR MOCK EXAMINATION UNTIL JAMB ASSIGNS TO THEM A CBT
CENTRE.

NO ONE SHOULD PATRONISE FRAUDSTERS. ONLY JAMB ACCREDITED CBT CENTRES
CAN DO VALID REGISTRATION AND SERVE AS EXAMINATION CENTRES

GENERAL INFORMATION

All candidates must mandatory register their profiles through text messages as illustrated above before proceeding to buy the ePIN.

The registration fee is non-refundable.

As it is the practice, centres are allowed to charge not more than Seven Hundred Naira(N700) only as registration fee. Any centre that charges more than Seven Hundred Naira (N700) should be reported to JAMB for appropriate sanctions.

All CBT centres have been mandated to select any of the participating banks, or other ePin outlets These financial instuons are to be present at the CBT centres for the purpose of collecting all fees. No CBT centre staff is allowed to conduct direct cash transaction with the candidates.

Candidates are advised to read and understand the guidelines on admission and instructions on how to complete the online registration before commencing the process of registraon.

Multiple registrations are not permitted. Candidates who register more than once will be
identified and disqualified.

UTME Candidates are to note that irrespective of their choice of programme of study, they will be tested on a general text: Sweet Sixteen by Bolaji Abdullahi.

Candidates/Officials would not be allowed to enter into the examination centre with earphones wristwatches, mobile phones, electronic devices, or any pen/biro. Only common pencil is allowed.

Candidates are warned that the Board does not require or authorise the services of ANY cyber
cafe or establishment other than the accredited CBT centres for the purpose of this registration.
