APC crisis exacerbates as D-G Govs forum, Lukman attacks Oshiomhole

After months of denials and intrigues, Governor Godwin Obaseki may have eventually made up his mind to engage the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, in what promises to be a serious battle of the century.

The indication came to the fore yesterday when the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, said the current administration in Edo was commissioning a panel to investigate the billions of naira allegedly sunk into contracts relating to the state Central Hospital by the former labour leader when he held sway for eight years.

The remodelled accident and emergency ward of the medical facility, one of the legacy projects of Oshiomhole, was commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The media aide said: “Actors within the government are calling on the governor to probe the contracts in which billions of taxpayers’ money were expended yet poorly executed.

Meanwhile, officials from the Council on Regulation of Engineers of Nigeria (COREN) and the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) at the weekend commenced integrity tests on projects executed by the immediate past governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha.

The governor had a couple of days back ordered closure of the infrastructure on account of ‘structural defects.’

Structural engineers and road users had complained of alleged poor projects executed by the immediate past administration.

The Guardian gathered yesterday that other projects facing same fate include the Amakohia/Orlu highway, two tunnels along Port Harcourt road, Owerri and some public buildings constructed by Okorocha

The newly constructed 27 general hospitals, police headquarters, prisons headquarters, Chukwudifu Oputa High Court premises and a number of schools put in place by the past administration are also to undergo the scrutiny.

Besides, the governor has approved the constitution of a six-man team to investigate what transpired in the State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (ISOPADEC) from May 2011 to May 2019.
