The Federal University of Technology Owerri and the Student Union Government SUG has made clarification over reports of double payment by Fresh and Old students.
CampusLife earlier reported that students were being asked to pay N3500 for SUG, N52500 for Medicals, N500 for Library and N200 for sports.
CampusLife thorough investigation after hours of meeting with the Dean Student Affair Unit, Prof. Chikwendu Emenike Orji, Leadership of the Student Union Government, Medical director and as well as the Library unit clarifies the payments.
The SUG President, Mr Kennedy Madu who spoke to Campuslife said the 3000 is for Souvenirs which is voluntary and students are not forced to pay for it. These souvenirs include Shirts, SUG Book and sometimes Bangles carrying the SUG insignia. The N500 attached is for the SUG ID – card.
Speaking with the Director of Health, FUTO he clarified that the N5250 is for medical tests being carried out by the institution for fresh students which includes Tuberculosis, HB, Blood count and Genotype, etc.
Also, the Library unit has also clarified that students pay N500 for the Library Booklet (Rules and Regulation) and as such they are not double charged.
