Fresh War in Kogi PDP as chairmanship aspirant rejects election result

Fresh crisis appears to be brewing in the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, as one of the aspirants in the just-concluded State Congress, Mohammed Omuya has rejected the outcome of the election which produce Engr. Sam Uhuotu as the party Chairman.

Reports that Engr. Uhuotu polled 1478 votes to emerged as winner as State Chairman of the party at the weekend, defeating his closest rival, Mohammed Omuya, while scored 270.

Omuya, while reacting to the victory of Uhuotu on Sunday, claimed that the state Congress was not free, fair and credible.

According to him, the delegates were not allowed to vote rather some cabal collected the form from them and voted against their wish.

“In a democratic setting, for a party that has so much propagate propaganda against the APC-led Government, it is shocking and heart breaking to see bribed delegates following the instructions of selfish leaders to go against the interest of the majority.

“The congress was never a free and fair congress. It was accompanied by so much abnormalities, where a group of people fill in the booklet of the ballot paper on behalf of the delegate,” he said.

Kogi: Chairman, other executives of PDP emerge [See Names]

Engr. Sam Uhuotu, has returned as the Chairman of Kogi State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in an election supervised by Sen Dr. Iyorchia Ayu.

Announcing the result at the Lokoja Confluence Stadium, Ayu, who was the electoral committee Chairman, with Senator Emmanuel Nwaka as Secretary, commended the peaceful conduct of delegates to the congress, saying “the sportsmanship exhibited by the PDP is a clear indication that the Party would win convincingly in the forthcoming November governorship election”.

Uhuotu polled 1478 votes to emerge the new State Chairman of the PDP at the weekend defeating his closest rival, Mohammed Omuya who scored 270.

Hon. Sam Abenemi and Hon. Faruk Yahaya emerged unopposed as the Deputy Chairman and Secretary respectively.

Prince Bode Ogunmola polled 983 to also defeat Isah Itopa David who garnered 27 votes as the State Publicity Secretary in another position contested at the Congress.

Aside the Office of the Chairman and Publicity Secretary, the state Congress saw all the former 27 member executives returned as the newly constituted executives.

Those returned in the new executives are; Hon. Sam Abenemi as Deputy Chairman. Zubair Onotu as Vice Chairman Central, Mohammed Pele Vice Chairman East, Barr. Kola Ojo as Vice Chairman West.

Others elected are: Barr. Alfred Bello, Treasurer; Jude Sule, Financial Secretary; Stephen Onoji, Youth Leader; Ojechegbe Christopher, Organising Secretary; John Mark Sam, Legal Adviser.

In a post election message, the PDP Chairman, Engr Sam Uhuotu thanked the delegates of the PDP for finding him worthy of re-election, promising to redouble his efforts.

Uhuotu assured that he and the newly elected state officials would work towards uniting the PDP in the state, pointing out that “nothing would stop the PDP from winning the governorship election in November”.
