The Federal Government has reopened the Third Mainland Bridge after a one-month closure for maintenance work. The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced the announcement in a statement on Thursday.

Osiyemi stated, “We are pleased to announce that parts of the Third Mainland Bridge closed last month will reopen today, 21st December 2023, by 6 pm. Following essential maintenance, the entire bridge is now fully accessible to the public, ensuring smoother connectivity and safe commuting.”

He commended Nigerians for their patience during the temporary closure and acknowledged the inconvenience it may have caused. Osiyemi emphasized that the reopening underscores the government’s commitment to infrastructure upkeep and public safety.

The Federal Ministry of Works initially announced the closure on November 1, with the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Engr. (Mrs.) O. I. Kesha, stating that repair works would focus on the ramps connecting Oworoshoki to Adekunle and Lagos-Island (Adeniji Adele) to Adekunle simultaneously.

Motorists were advised to cooperate with traffic management officials, follow diversions, and use alternative routes during maintenance. The Third Mainland Bridge, extending nearly 12 kilometers (7.5 miles), links Lagos Island, the city’s business hub, with the mainland, where a significant portion of the population resides.
