Deputy Governorship candidate of LP in Lagos resigns from the party

Princess Islamiyat Oyefusi, who served as the Labour Party (LP) deputy gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State during the 2023 elections, has officially resigned from her position within the party. Oyefusi confirmed her resignation to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos, citing a misalignment of the party’s values with her own as the reason for her departure.

While Oyefusi ran alongside LP’s gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, she clarified that her decision to resign does not signify a shift towards joining any other political party such as the APC, PDP, or any other. She emphasized that her focus remains on making a positive impact on the lives of individuals across various communities in the state.

Expressing her perspective, Oyefusi stated, “Must I align with another party? I am pursuing my ambitions independently. I believe I can advance my goals without affiliating with any particular political group. My current emphasis is on community service and outreach.”

She further elaborated on ongoing initiatives aimed at aiding Lagos residents, including upcoming medical outreaches and food distribution programs. Oyefusi emphasized her commitment to serving and supporting communities during challenging times, reaffirming her dedication to making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
