In a troubling turn of events, the Police in Abia State have verified the apprehension of a Chinese expatriate, Mr GZ Zhen, at the Inner Galaxy Steel in Umuahala Asa, Ukwa West council area, on allegations of fatally injuring a female crane operator, identified as Ocheze Ogbonna.
Reports suggest that Zhen purportedly assaulted the female crane operator during a night shift at the company premises after she rebuffed his advances. Tragically, the victim sustained severe injuries, ultimately resulting in her untimely demise.
The incident has stirred unrest in the area, with local youths staging protests to denounce the death of the crane operator, who hailed from the host community.
Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer for Abia Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka, disclosed that Zhen is currently in police custody. Chinaka further assured that a thorough investigation has been initiated to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
