Criminals Fatally Attack Four Soldiers, While Two Oil Workers Are Abducted In Rivers

The Nigerian Army in Rivers State reported that suspected hoodlums attacked its troops engaged in routine escort duty at Enweh West Manifold in Ahoada East Council of the state. The attack resulted in the unfortunate killing of four soldiers, and two oil workers are currently missing. Major Danjuma Jonah, the Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the assailants managed to escape through Emesu Waterside using the Orashi River.

Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Nigerian Army, strongly condemned the unprovoked attack. He assured that efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice for their crimes.

The incident occurred as troops from the 5 Battalion provided routine escort duty for an oil servicing company at Enweh West Manifold in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State. The attack took place at Emesu junction along Amungboro-Emuphan road.

Danjuma stated, “Unfortunately, 4 soldiers were killed in action, with 2 other oil workers unaccounted for.” The suspects reportedly escaped through the Emesu waterside, utilizing the Orashi River. Presently, troops are conducting operations in the general area to locate and apprehend the individuals responsible for this heinous act.

Efforts are also ongoing to locate the missing oil workers. Major General Jamal Abdussalam reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian Army to eliminating various forms of criminal activities, including militancy, oil theft, and pipeline vandalism, within the Niger Delta region. He called on the public to provide credible and actionable intelligence that could lead to arresting the criminals involved in the attack.
