Professor Anthony Ugochukwu the Enugu State Commissioner for Health is dead.
He passed away Friday night at Memphys Hospital in Enugu.
The member representing Oji River state Constituency in the Enugu House of Assembly, Jeff Mbah, confirmed Ugochukuwu’s demise.
The lawmaker, on Saturday, described the late surgeon as a genius and a technocrat.
“It is a great loss to both Enugu State and Nigeria. We are talking about a renowned Professor of Surgery who has a lot to offer in turning around the health sector. It is a terrible blow”, he said.
Mbah disclosed that the don recently returned from the United States and was doing fine before the sudden relapse.
Ugochukwu had been sick from his days as Provost of the College of Medicine, Enugu.
The late commissioner, who hailed from Oji River, later recovered and concluded his work in the College.
But, shortly after he was appointed commissioner 2019, the sickness returned, this time more severe.
He, however, lost the fight and died at a hospital where he was receiving treatment.
