The Government of Katsina State has revealed that the abducted Kankara School boys kidnapped last Friday have been freed.
This is coming six days after they were abducted in their dormitories at night by bandits. Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for the abduction and released a video of the school boys.
The Special Adviser to the Katsina Governor on Security, Ibrahim Kastina, confirmed the release of the students.
The reliable sources who revealed on condition of anonymity also confirmed the total number of boys released to be 340.
He said the students were freed on Thursday at Tsafe (82.5km via road) from Kankara town in Katsina State where they were abducted.
As at the time of filing this story, the boys who just regained their freedom are on transit to Katsina State.
Earlier on Wednesday, Governor Bello Masari of Katsina said the abducted students were taken to a forest in Zamfara State.
He, however, refuted the allegation that the students were kidnapped by Boko Haram.
Meanwhile Boko Haram has released video claiming that they are with the Boys.
Leader of the terrorist group, Abubakar Shekau had said the students were abducted to promote Islam and downplay the importance of western education.
The clip which is six-minute-and-30-second long, shows scores of young boys behind him, all covered in dust within a forest area.
