Lassa Fever Outbreak hits Abia State Community

Lassa Fever one of the deadest has hit Abia State in a community in Umuahia South local government area.

The victim and other 95 persons said to have suspected to have had contact with the victim have been quarantined.

The virus was first described in 1969 from a case in the town of Lassa, in Borno State, Nigeria. Lassa fever is relatively common in West Africa including the countries of Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Ghana, According to Wikipedia.

Lassa is transmitted via Humans usually become infected with Lassa virus from exposure to urine or faeces of infected Mastomys rats
